Major General John L. Scott, Jr. Major General John L. Scott, Jr. was promoted to MG during the Change of Command Ceremony on February 18, 2017. MG James Lockemy relinquished command to MG Scott at the event which took place at the Olympia Armory in Columbia.

MG Scott's Military Awards and Schools include Meritorious Service, SC Homeland Defense Attachment, Emergency Service Training, Volunteer Service, State Commendation Ribbon, State Achievement Ribbon, State Senior Service Ribbon, State Service Ribbon, Homeland Defense, SC Meritorious Medal, Senior Officer Course and the Order of the Palmetto. In 2007, he was awarded the Minuteman Award.

General Scott was elected to the South Carolina State Senate in 2008 and represents South Carolina’s Senate District 19. As a member of South Carolina’s General Assembly, he serves on the Senate Finance, Labor Commerce and Industry, Medical Affairs, Rules, and Transportation Committees. His service to South Carolina spans for 27 years. He served on the Richland County Council as its Vice-Chair for 2 years. He was elected to South Carolina’s House of Representatives in 1990 and served 18 years before being elected to the State Senate in 2008.

Senator Scott has received numerous awards and citations. His community and military service are exemplified by his participation and involvement in a wide array of community organizations, including the Voorhees College Board of Trustees, South Carolina Military Department Joint Service Detachment and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. among several other professional organizations.

General Scott is a graduate of C.A. Johnson High School and South Carolina State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting with a Minor in Economics. He is also a graduate of the Diversity Leadership Academy at the Richard E. Riley Institute (Furman University).

He is a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church. He served as Trustee for twenty years and Deacon since 2005. He is the son of John L. Scott, Sr. and Grace Scott. He is married to the lovely Joan Crouch and they are the proud parents of one son, John L. Scott, III. Senator Scott is Founder/Owner and Broker in Charge of J .L. Scott Realty Company, Inc. and is Co-Owner of the
C & S Consulting Group, Inc. along with his wife Joan.
